Rheono vs Intruder: proven exploits on one surface, or scans across the estate
Verdict
Rheono wins when you need each finding in your web app or API proven with a working exploit, logic flaws included, at a flat monthly price per surface: €99 for one full pentest a month, €499 for continuous coverage.
What Intruder is
Intruder sells a vulnerability management platform. It scans external infrastructure (IPs, websites, servers, container images and cloud assets) for misconfigurations and exposed services, runs authenticated DAST on web apps and APIs you control, checks cloud configuration, and monitors ports, from 80 and 443 on the Free plan up to all ports on Enterprise.
Intruder's pricing page has four plans. Free scans five infrastructure targets every week. Cloud adds web app and API testing and daily cloud checks, Pro adds internal servers and employee devices through an agent, and Enterprise is quoted. Cloud and Pro are a base fee plus a fee per target, and the page's price calculator starts Cloud at $299 and Pro at $499 a month on monthly billing, before licences for web app and API targets. Annual billing saves 20%.
Pentests are a separate purchase. Intruder sells AI-powered web application pentests starting at $3,500 per test.
What Intruder does better
Breadth across an estate. Intruder watches IPs, servers, cloud accounts, containers and open ports on a schedule, and on Pro it reaches internal servers and employee devices. Rheono looks at one web app and its API per surface, and it does not scan infrastructure or devices.
Coverage of known weaknesses. Weekly or daily scans look for misconfigurations and exposed services on the targets in the plan. That is a different job from a pentest, and Rheono does not try to do it.
A free plan. Intruder's Free plan scans five infrastructure targets every week at no cost, and the pricing page offers a 14-day free trial.
Where Rheono differs
The output is a working exploit. A Rheono pentest tries the attack on the live system: reading another customer's order with your test account, calling an admin function from a normal role, racing a checkout. A finding ships only with a working proof of concept, after three checks: the agent proves it, a separate validator tries to break the proof, and a scripted replay reruns it where the bug class allows.
One price per surface, without a licence counter. Rheono's Starter (€99 a month) and Growth (€499 a month) each cover one web app and its API. Intruder uses up a licence each time it scans a target and keeps it in use for 30 days, and it prices pentests per test.
Scope in writing. Testing starts only after you verify the domain (a DNS TXT record or a well-known file) and sign an authorization with rules of engagement: hosts, techniques, rate limits and no-gos. It is valid for 90 days.
A signed report for European buyers. Findings land in a report with an advanced electronic signature and NIS2 / ISO 27001-ready evidence mapping. Rheono is run from Germany and stores customer data in the EU.

Who Rheono is for
A company that already scans its infrastructure, or does not need to, and wants proof of what an attacker can do inside its web app and API: authorization flaws, broken business logic, and a signed report for the next security questionnaire.
FAQ
- Is Intruder a vulnerability scanner or a pentest?
- Mostly a scanner: its plans scan infrastructure, web apps, APIs and cloud accounts on a schedule. Pentests are a separate purchase, starting at $3,500 per test.
- How much does Intruder cost?
- The Free plan costs nothing. On monthly billing, Intruder's price calculator starts Cloud at $299 and Pro at $499 a month, with web app and API targets licensed on top. Annual billing saves 20%, Enterprise is quoted, and VAT comes on top.
- Can Intruder and Rheono run side by side?
- Yes. Intruder watches the wider estate for known weaknesses, and Rheono tests one web app and its API for exploits. They meet on the web app itself, where Intruder runs DAST checks and Rheono tries to prove an attack end to end.
- What does a Rheono finding look like?
- The sample report shows one: an IDOR on /v1/orders/{id}, where a test account reads other customers' full order history by changing the ID. It ships with a PoC script, the raw request and response, an enumeration log, the fix, and the retest that closed it.
- Does Rheono scan internal servers or cloud accounts?
- No. Rheono tests external web apps and APIs that you authorize in writing. Internal networks, employee devices and cloud configuration are outside its scope.
